TRIO Student Support Services is seeking student tutors. Tutors are not expected to teach subject matter, but act as subject area resources on specific areas of student inquiry while modeling and promoting effective study skills and habits.
100 Tutor students either individually or in small groups in various academic subjects.
Demonstrate and explain content and study strategies. Maintain records and participate in trainings and workshops. Other duties as assigned. Position: TRIO Student Support Services Student Tutor
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally-funded TRIO program that serves 160 limited income, first-generation college students, and/or students who experience disabilities. The program's mission is to assist students toward the goal of graduated with a bachelor's degree. SSS' tutoring program is unique in that it provides one-on-one tutoring; therefore, tutors provide professional, required, and vital support to the students and program. Tutors are expected to act as subject area resources on specific areas of student inquiry while modeling and promoting effective study skills and habits.
The position report directly to the SSS staff and will tutor/mentor students by assisting them with basic instruction, subject-specific content, and study skills. SSS tutors may be asked to contact students via phone or email, assist at workshops or study groups, and/or assist with data reporting regarding tutoring.
These positions will provide tutoring primarily in college math, English, writing, and/or science courses.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Position requires mastery of the subject material to be tutored in. Applicants must have strong interpersonal skills, good written and verbal skills, and experience working with diverse populations. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision with students of varying abilities. Good computer skills are required.
Must be a UA student enrolled with a minimum of 6 credits. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 with a 3.0 average in subject(s) tutored.
