Position Summary:

The Bristol Bay Campus is currently looking for a Career and Academic Advisor! Successful applicant will provide Career & Academic advising to potential and current students of the Bristol Bay and Aleutian-Pribilof regions.

Duties:

25Assist the Student Services Manager in maintaining student records and performing data entry. Assist in maintaining student database for informational tracking of undergraduate degree seeking students. Proctor placement and other related tests and assessments tools to determine student''s interests, aptitudes and employability skill levels. Coordinate and present available programs at college and career fairs, high schools and professional meetings.Essential
25Work in collaboration with the Financial Aid Coordinator to provide and increase village student access to student aid. Provide comprehensive advising services to UAF-Bristol Bay Campus students. Review and use available data about students'' academic and educational need to make appropriate referrals. Referrals may include, but are not limited to academic departmental advising, dual enrollment processes, career counseling and other services supporting student academic success. Assist students in selecting appropriate courses and other educational experiences. Interpreting institutional requirements (academic process, student academic progress, graduation requirements, etc.). Maintain adequate advising records on a regular basis. Coordinate tracking and intervention services to targeted students each semester, including but not limited to: students at risk. Work collaboratively with faculty and other university personnel to intervene when students experience academic difficulties. Keep well-informed of current trends in academic advising. In conjunction with the manager of student services, work closely with various departments to support established outreach efforts to target student populations and or assist in developing new or expanded best practices advising efforts. Assist students with learning UA''s web-based student services resource. e.q. UAonline, Degreeworks, Webmail, Blackboard Learn, Blackboard Collaborate, and ordering textbooks. Communicate with local funding agencies in assisting students.Essential
50Travel to villages to meet with current and prospective students to provide career counseling, program information, course offerings, outreach programs, information for economic and community development training, and education access. Visit with tribal councils, health clinics, local school districts, and other organizations to work with administrators and counsel students who are interested in pursuing career and academic development in high demand areas.Essential

The Bristol Bay Campus is looking for a Career and Academic Advisor. This position is based in Dillingham, Alaska at the UAF Bristol Bay Campus. Successful applicant will provide Career & Academic advising to potential and current students. 

Duties include, but not limited to, recruiting and retaining students, assisting in program admission, course registration, problem solving, financial aid guidance, proctoring placement test, participating in events and outreach activities, assisting Student Services Manager with data entry and analysis.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to comprehend and apply university policies and procedures as they relate to students, public speaking skills, oral and written communication skills, computer skills, effective listening and comprehending skills, cross-cultural experience, and distance delivery experience. Ability to travel on small aircraft and stay several days in villages multiple times throughout the semester. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Demonstrated customer service experience.

Required Experience:

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment.   During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.  Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
