10 Assist with processing new children’s, young adult, and graphic novels under the supervision of the librarian. Essential
10 Keep the children’s room tidy and organized.
Pick up stray books and toys at least once per day and put away. Shelve all children’s books.

35 Provide outreach services to children. Plan and implement weekly children''s programs in the library. Plan and implement outreach activities for children.
Plan summer reading programs under supervision of the librarian.
Recruit volunteers as needed to help with children’s programs.
Keep statistics on all youth programming attendance and report to the librarian. Essential

Provide reference services and assist patrons, refer questions to the librarian as required.
Issue/ receive library materials using library computer system; reshelve materials; issue library cards.

The Kuskokwim Consortium Library is hiring a Youth Services Assistant! This person will be in charge of planning and promoting all children’s activities at the library and engaging in outreach to the community. They will also keep the Children’s Reading Room organized and advise on which children’s materials to acquire. In addition to that, they will assist with normal library functions, such as checking in and out materials and answering patron questions. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about helping the public and has a strong ambition to help children discover a love of reading. This position is full time and comes with benefits.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to relate to children’s programming. Experience planning children’s programs or community outreach. Experience working in or using libraries. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with co-workers and library patrons. Must be able to relate to the local Yup’ik culture and communicate effectively. Ability to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy. Must have good organizational and communication skills. Must have excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude. Must approach children’s programming with creativity.
High school graduation or GED. Minimum Educational Requirement:
At least six months of experience working in a library or working with children in a library or educational setting. Experience with children’s programming or community outreach preferred. Experience:
Salary: 20.81/hr, DOE.
