The College of Engineering looking for tutors to help demonstrate and explain content and study strategies in various subjects related to engineering.
This position would tutor students individually or in small groups. Demonstrate and explain content and study strategies. Maintain records and participate in training and workshops as needed. Other duties as assigned. Tutors are solicited for all academic subjects including but not limited to: chemistry, physics, calculus, civil engineering, natural sciences, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, mechanical engineering, and general engineering courses. This is a labor pool and applicants will be hired as needed. Ability to work assigned hours, possibly including some evenings or weekends. Must possess excellent problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to work with a diverse population. Ability to effectively explain and demonstrate academic content concepts using a variety of teaching and rhetorical strategies.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 with a 3.0 average in subject(s) tutored.
NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.
