Position Summary:

This position is a Student Assistant C position at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Duties:

University Housing, Dining and Conference Services is responsible for all business and facility aspects of UAA's residential campus. This includes 18 residential and non-residential building across campus.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform a variety of landscaping, maintenance and custodial duties to ensure exceptional in-house grounds, custodial and building maintenance service. Must be focused on customer service and committed to providing our students and guests with an attractive, clean, and healthy educational environment. 

Under frequent supervision will receive assignments with detailed instructions. Progress will be checked regularly. May routinely attend to and care for facilities, grounds, animals, machines and equipment by performing the following duties:

  • Keep building and grounds in clean and orderly condition including but not limited to trash removal, raking, mowing, spraying, and other general maintenance. 
  • Remove hazards from buildings and grounds including snow, ice, debris, animal wastes, construction materials, and other items as required.
  • Assist in maintaining building and grounds including snow removal, ice control, repairing fences, gates, landscape, walls, walks and signs. 
  • Assist in minor plumbing, painting and drywall repair. 
  • Use work orders, including computerized systems, to maintain inventories and issue materials. Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins and performs periodic inventories. 
  • Remove trash from rooms and buildings; perform floor maintenance including, sweeping, mopping, carpet cleaning, etc.
  • Clean windows, doors and other horizontal and vertical surfaces. 
  • Sanitize and clean restrooms, food service areas, and common areas in residence buildings. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Applicants must possess the ability work as part of a team, work independently, pay attention to detail, and follow directions. Strong time management and interpersonal communication skills are also required.

Education and/or Experience:

Any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the skills and abilities necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the job. May require a current valid driver's license, must meet UA safe driving requirements. Must undergo a criminal history background check; and have the ability to follow instructions both written and verbal in the English language and the ability to complete required forms, paperwork, and time sheets.

Must be a current student at UAA enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours in current semester or have been enrolled in the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters.

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:

A.) Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or

B.) Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and

C.) Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA).

D.) An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

Maintenance/Custodial student staff are paid as Student Assistant C employees - $10.50/hour.
