Looking for a student who is interested in working in the the Daily Den (also known as the SACP Commuter Lounge)! Coordinate commuter-friendly programs for campus! This highly-engaging position offers opportunities for students to develop group communication, planning, decision-making, prioritizing, and other leadership skills. Team members receive on-going training that will extend, apply, and enhance classroom learning. This position offers a superb opportunity for students to make friends with other students. Through their efforts, team members contribute to fostering a sense of belonging for commuter students at UAA.
Student Activities & Commuter Programs (SACP) is a program of Student Life & Leadership (SLL). SACP works collaboratively with other SLL offices to be the center of co-curricular activities on campus. SACP team members are leaders in all areas of student well-being: diversity, social justice, leadership, healthy life skills, community engagement, and self-awareness. Throughout the semester, we work to create events that empower a sense of belonging for the UAA community.
The SACP Daily Den job posting is a "pool position" for the 2016-2017 academic year; applicants will be hired based upon department need. Please note that being placed in the potential hire "pool" is not a guarantee of an offer of employment.
Areas of Responsibility:
Include the following:
1) Our core responsibility involves operating the Daily Den--the only student fee-supported commuter lounge on campus. Work involves menu development, meal preparation, kitchen cleanup/maintenance, and host facilitation of Daily Den programming.
2) SACP hosts several commuter-friendly events each semester: Family Movie Night, fitness events, Commuter Student Appreciation Week (CSAW), Global Kitchen, "UAA Votes," Late Nights, and several other ongoing events throughout the semester.
3) SACP also develops collaborations with programs, departments, and organizations within the community to advocate for commuter student success.
NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the University.
