The UA Institutional Research, Planning and Analysis department is seeking a student assistant for the 2017-18 academic year.
100 Works under general direction. Exercises independent judgment and decision-making in developing new procedures or techniques. May involve supervision of other student employees. Examples of typical work include: performing complex computer programming, network operations or troubleshooting; advance technical computer maintenance; research, writing or assisting in writing technical reports; assisting in complex technical aspects of complex projects. Additional position details
This position will assist in managing basic office functions in support of the University of Alaska Institutional Research, Planning and Analysis department.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Scheduling and coordinating meetings
Maintaining and organizing electronic filing systems
Assisting with arranging departmental travel
Staffing front desk and serving as a point of contact for the department
Answering phones and relaying messages
Clerical work such as printing, document formatting, web page maintenance, and office supply inventories
Basic research projects to include data queries, manipulation, charts, and reports
Applicants must be able to work 15-20 hours per week during the school year between the hours of 8am and 5pm. 30-40 hours per week are available during the summer.

Education and/or training required for this position (including licenses)
Pursuant to Board of Regents Policy P09.05.020.C, to be eligible for employment as a student assistant, an applicant must:
1. be enrolled in the university system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
2. have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
3. have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the chancellor or the chancellor’s designee.
Type and length of experience required for this position
At least 1 year customer service and office experience in a professional setting preferred.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software, as well as iOS and Windows operating systems.
Ability to pay close attention to detail, work in an organized manner, and without close supervision
Must be able to maintain confidentiality and security of all information
Demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures and practices
Must possess basic clerical skills including accurate typing and filing, and have strong organizational skills. Must be familiar with office equipment (fax, copiers, calculators, personal computers).
Previous website maintenance experience or desire to learn
Must be able to deal with public cordially and tactfully, adequate communication skills required
