Position Summary:

This position description outlines the requirements and responsibilities of individuals who will serve as Clinical Foundations Faculty for Alaska WWAMI. Academic Title: Clinical Foundations Faculty Alaska WWAMI Academic Appointment: Clinical Foundations Faculty, University of Alaska Anchorage and University of Washington with rank determined based on qualifications. This position is a 0.5 FTE appointment and will be based at UAA. It is expected that the physicians who fill this role will continue to be active in the practice of medicine. Responsibilities: • Work closely with UAA WWAMI faculty in developing, adapting and deploying the Foundations Phase curriculum at UAA. This will involve working closely with curriculum leaders in the School of Medicine and Alaska WWAMI. • Participate in appropriate faculty development. • Deliver the new Foundations Phase curriculum. This will include preparing for classes, facilitating student learning during classes, reviewing and discussing assignments, following up on a regular basis with students or as needed, student remediation, and serving as a resource for medical students. Participate in faculty meetings and committee work of the WWAMI. Foundations curriculum, including inter-professional education, and service-learning activities as assigned. • Other duties as required. Working Relationships: The primary reporting relationship of this position is to the Assistant Foundations Dean, Alaska WWAMI. The position also reports to the UWSOM Associate Dean of Curriculum.

Develop and team teach one or more block courses for medical students in a manner consistent with the specific course content description, as prescribed in the UWSOM/WWAMI Foundations Curriculum.  Faculty are expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught. 

 

Knowledge/skills/abilities:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to advocate for the university and the UAA WWAMI program. General background in related field.

 

Candidates must have documented, successful experience teaching at the medical school level, willingness to work with medical students and sensitivity to diverse student population. Collegiality is a must.

 

Required Experience:

Medical school level teaching experience, including evidence of accomplishment in medical school teaching and clinical experience as a physician.

Experience in medical education curriculum.

 

The individual performing this role should hold a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree and be board certified in an American Board of Medical Specialties recognized medical specialty. The physician must meet the requirements for appointment to the faculty at UAA and at the University of Washington School of Medicine.  A minimum of five years of clinical practice and teaching is preferred.  Past experience of clinical teaching with medical students is preferred.

 

Typical Education or Training:

MD at time of appointment.
