Position Summary:

The Department of English is seeking applicants for their adjunct labor pool. The English Department’s mission is to prepare students to succeed in an increasingly diverse world. The department is devoted to an innovative curriculum that encourages lifelong learning, critical thinking and effective writing. In particular, the department is concerned with Alaskan cultures, the North Pacific Rim environment and the intersection of networked technologies and forms of textuality. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute a hiring agreement, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis, according to the needs of that semester's schedule.

Duties / Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for teaching one or more undergraduate courses in a manner consistent with the specific Course Content Guide. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Candidates will be evaluated on the suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, and ability or potential to effectively teach undergraduate composition courses. Expertise and experience relevant to the course content will also be considered. Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching one or more courses in composition in a manner consistent with the specific course content description, course content guide, and assigned textbook. Required Experience:

Applicants must have experience relevant to teaching the specific course content.

Typical Education or Training:

A Master's Degree in English or closely related discipline (e.g. MA or MAT) is required. Doctorate degree in related field is required for upper-division (300- and 400-level courses).

Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment. Qualifying earned degrees must be conferred either by institutions of higher education which are accredited by one of the six US regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education as determined by UAA based on a review by a foreign educational credential evaluation service and recognized by UAA.
