Position Summary: The Care Team Case Manager is a key member of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Dean of Students Office. This position is a member of the UAA Care Teams and closely collaborates with the Student Health & Counseling Center and Department of Residence Life. This position provides: 1) case management services, 2) updates Care Team records, 3) consults with students, faculty and staff, 4) provides support to DOSO staff members, and 5) provides outreach and training. The Care Team Case Manager is a 40-hour per week, 11-month, term-funded position. The contract would be for 11 months of the fiscal year most likely running from mid-July through mid-June, depending on the needs of the Dean of Students Office. A term position is funded year-to-year depending on funding availability each fiscal year.

Duties

10Consultant • Serve as a consultant to students, staff, faculty, families, and members of the UAA community regarding students of concern and their behavior to determine the most appropriate response that meets the constituents’ and University’s needs. • Provide appropriate strategies and referrals to address student behavior.Essential
10Dean of Students Office (DOSO) Support • Provide support to the daily operations of the Dean of Students Office, to include helping with phone and walk-in traffic. • Work on DOSO projects as assigned by the Dean of Students or Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct & Ethical Development.Essential
15Record Keeping • Submit Care reports about students of concern. • Document case management services in online database. • Enter notes from Care Team meetings in online database.Essential
5Outreach and Training • Help foster a culture of reporting on campus by advertising the services provided by the Care Team to the UAA Community. • Provide training to the UAA community regarding how to recognize at-risk students and how to make referrals. • Help the Care Team Coordinator to design, plan, implement, and evaluate publicity, marketing, workshops, and trainings to promote the Care Team and its services. • Present workshops and trainings as needed.Essential
60Case Management Provide case management services for students by arranging, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating, and advocating for students who are identified and in need of assistance. • Intake reports of students of concern and provide support, utilizing a trauma-informed care approach. • Coordinate campus and community resources to support students. Refer students to University and/or community services and assist them to follow-through on the referrals provided. • Collaborate and consult with key stakeholders and members of student support networks, on- and off-campus, to develop a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach for responding to, advocating for, and supporting students, including coordination with hospitals for intake, discharge planning, and follow-up care. • Communicate with parents, families, or designated emergency contacts as appropriate regarding significant mental health emergencies including hospitalizations, suicide attempts, etc., when the Dean of Students Office is the first point-of-contact or as directed by campus partners. • Participate as a member of the UAA Care Teams. • Collaborate with campus partners to provide crisis intervention and conduct risk assessments. • Collect, organize, and evaluate facts associated with student case management cases, develop intervention plans and referrals, and communicate with the impacted student(s). • Meet with students, family members, University and community members, to address needs and facilitate access to services and follow-up care. Receive direction from the Care Team Coordinator and supervision from the Director of Student Conduct & Ethical Development and Assistant Dean of Students.Essential

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for the Care Team Case Manager.  The UAA Care Team started in 2009 and now receives close to 600 reports per year.  This position collaborates closely with the Care Team Coordinator to provide support and ongoing care to students of concern.

The Care Team Case Manager reports to the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct & Ethical Development.  The position collaborates with other University departments such as the Student Health & Counseling Center and Residence Life.  The Care Team Case Manager's primary role is to provide case management services to students referred to the Care Team. However, this position also has record-keeping, consulting, training, and other duties as assigned as a member of the Dean of Students Office team.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Possess demonstrated effective skills in organization, planning, decision-making, problem-solving, strategic thinking and the effective use of resources. Must also have effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle confidential information in a sensitive manner and use sound judgment in responding to crisis situations. Knowledge of trauma and implications for advocacy. Experience providing culturally relevant training to diverse audiences. Ability to work with students, staff, faculty, upper level administration, parents, and other stakeholders. Knowledge of and experience in working with adolescents, young adults, and diverse populations. Computer skills including presentation software, email, and Microsoft Office suite.  Must be able to work flexible evening and weekend schedule, as necessary.

Required Experience:

One to three years of professional experience in case management services or related field such as student affairs or counseling. Graduate school experience may count toward this requirement.

Typical Education or Training:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline such as human services, psychology, sociology, education, or social work is required.
 
A master's degree from an accredited institution in college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, public health, psychology, social work or other related field is strongly preferred.
