Tutors are hired by the Languages Department each semester (Fall and Spring) to assist students in their studies of American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.

Successful applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool for the academic year from which tutors will be hired each semester according to the needs of that semester's schedule.

Duties may include some or all of the following: assisting students with grammatical and cultural questions as appropriate; providing conversation practice in the target language; providing assistance with written and oral assignments (at the discretion of the instructor); encouraging a supportive environment for the beginning learner to practice his or her skills. Tutors must participate in training offered by the Learning Resource Center, as well as the Department of Languages.

Proficiency in the target language and the ability to explain grammatical concepts and provide conversational practice at a level deemed sufficient to the language section or tutor coordinator. Attention to detail and timeliness in completion of assigned tasks. Requires effective and timely communication skills.
