Position Summary:

The Department of History is accepting applications for adjunct instructors. Applicants should be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment. Adjunct positions are on a semester appointment basis. Successful acceptance into the adjunct pool does not guarantee an offer of an appointment nor does having worked one semester guarantee an offer of employment in the following semester. This is an adjunct labor pool and applicants are hired based on departmental need. Salary is based on the number of previous semesters teaching experience within the University of Alaska.

Duties:

The Department of History is accepting applications for adjunct instructors. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which adjunct instructors will be hired. 

Applicants should be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment.

***Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute a hiring agreement. Hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis, according to the needs of that semester's schedule. Having worked one semester does not guarantee a position will be available the following semester.***

Duties/Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for teaching one or more courses consistent with the student learning outcomes and assessment methods specified in the course content guide. Course descriptions can be found online in the UAA catalog at http://catalog.uaa.alaska.edu/. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught and make themselves available for contact with students.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, documented past teaching experience, and potential to provide high-quality instruction to undergraduate students taking History survey courses.  

Required Experience
Candidates must provide evidence of having successfully taught at least 6 credit hours of History at the college level. Preference given to candidates who have completed the Ph.D., or with advanced ABD status. All specifications considered.  

Typical Education or Training
General background in related field. Masters degree in related field is required.
