Position Summary:

The Performing & Fine Arts Division is accepting applications for adjunct instructors in the following departments: Art, Music, Theatre and Dance. The Performing & Fine Arts Division at the University of Alaska Anchorage offers a broad-based selection of courses and programs for students who wish to pursue a career in the above fields or who need to increase their knowledge in these areas.

Duties:

100The incumbent will be responsible for teaching one or more courses in a manner consistent with the course content guide. Course descriptions can be found online in the UAA Catalog at http://catalog.uaa.alaska.edu/. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught and be available for contact with students.Essential

Adjunct positions are on a semester appointment basis. Successful acceptance into the adjunct pool does not guarantee an offer of an appointment nor does having worked one semester guarantee an offer of employment in the following semester. This is an adjunct labor pool and applicants are hired based on departmental need.

Applicants should be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment.  Candidates will be evaluated on the suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students in a manner consistent with the specific course content guides in the following departments: 

  • Art
  • Music
  • Theatre
  • Dance

Applicants must have experience relevant to teaching the specific course content. 

A faculty member who is the instructor of record in a credit-bearing course at the 100-level should hold a terminal master's degree (MFA), unless an exception has been approved by the Dean of CAS. 

Exceptions may be made in other circumstances when prospective faculty have special professional credentials and experience. An example of a candidate with special professional credentials might be an accomplished artist or musician. 

In CAS, faculty teaching upper-division courses or graduate courses should hold a terminal degree in appropriate discipline.
