The Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) is seeking outstanding and accomplished applicants for the President’s Professor of Energy to broaden and deepen ACEP’s research on renewable power generation and dispatch, electrical and thermal energy storage, hybrid-diesel microgrids, advanced control systems, and grid modeling.
ACEP's mission is to develop practical and cost-effective energy solutions for Alaska and beyond. We accomplish this by working on all areas of the R&D pipeline from developing a basic understanding of energy streams in closed and open systems to supporting the final steps of product development with industry and utility partners, including high fidelity integration testing and monitoring the performance of deployed systems. Our R&D work is supplemented by active workforce development through custom tailored training programs. ACEP operates a 500 kW islanded hybrid-diesel microgrid laboratory, a river hydrokinetic systems test site, and has access to UAF's Arctic Region Supercomputing Center. Our research program leverages numerous global partnerships with industry, research facilities, and other universities, and we have a close working relationship with the Alaska utility industry in order to apply our research in the field.
