Position Summary: The Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow to work on modeling Landscape Vulnerability to Thermokarst Disturbance and its Implications for Ecosystem Services in Alaska, in projects funded by the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow to conduct wetland modeling and remote sensing analysis as part of the Yukon Flats Thermokarst project and the Integrated Ecosystem Model for Alaska project, both projects being funded by the U.S. Geological Survey.

The successful candidate will primarily conduct wetland modeling studies that include the development, parameterization, testing, analysis, and application of models that simulate vegetation, carbon and permafrost dynamics in wetland ecosystems in Alaska. The successful candidate will also be likely involved in remote sensing activities such as repeated imagery analysis.

Training in earth system science or biogeochemistry is required. Research experience in modeling wetland hydrology and biogeochemistry is required, and skills in remote sensing, data analysis and computer programming are required. A Ph.D. degree (already received or awaiting receipt with all requirements fulfilled) is required. Applicants will provide a CV, a cover letter, a list of three professional referees, and two letters of support.

This is a term-funded position and contracts are renewed at the beginning of each fiscal year contingent upon available funding. The successful applicant is required to complete a background check. Any offer of employment is contingent on the background check.
